Pantone® has announced its colour of the year for 2015 and it is (drum roll please….)  Marsala. For those of you who wish to know how to incorporate this beautiful rich shade (which can be considered a combination of wine and deep maroon) we have tons of inspiration for you.

But first, a bit about this colour from the experts over at Pantone®..

“Marsala is a robust earthy colour which  enriches the mind, body and soul. It is a subtly seductive shade that draws the observer in to its embracing warmth.”

We think this nurturing and fulfilling colour will suit Indian brides irrespective of their skin tones and can be used in all aspects of their wedding day. The best part about using Marsala in Indian wedding themes is that even the groom can incorporate it in his Sehra, Shervani bottoms or as accents in the detailing.

Here are 5 ways to incorporate Marsala in your wedding day..

Pantone Spring 2015 Colour Palettes- Part 1

It’s no secret that Pantone is the sole colour expert that all fashion houses turn to when it comes to choosing palettes for each season, every year. In fact, their colour palettes form the base of many famous designer collections and the great news is that their shades suit a wide range of skin tones all over the world. We decided to go a little deeper into understanding how Indian brides could use these gorgeous shades for any pre-wedding or post wedding ceremonies. Since Spring is just around the corner (Spring is from March to May), these are the colour palettes you need to consider if you truly want to stay 2015 spring colour trendy.

So what’s special about the Spring palette? Well, on first sight what stands out is the fact that pastels and lighter hues are given more prominence and that itself is a reminder of the retro era. Colours found in their natural state take the lead and since spring is more about an awakening of nature itself, floral art and simple attractive minimalistic themes are the prime highlights. These same gentle hues can be paired with warmer or bolder tones for a beautiful contrast. The spring colours for this year are:

Pantone spring colour palettes

Aquamarine: This shade is the frontrunner for Spring this year and it’s bound to be a hit because it suits Indian skin tones so beautifully. A shade that can be worn both during the day and at night, aquamarine is believed to be a natural stress buster too because of the calming effect this shade has on the senses. We think an aquamarine ghagra choli with royal blue or fuchsia pink work and filigree embroidery will look perfect for a sangeeth or mehendi ceremony. Or, how about combining aquamarine with Marsala Red for extra drama?

Scuba Blue: This is undoubtedly the shade to wear for a shopping date in the morning or even in the afternoon. This vibrant colour reminds an onlooker of crystal clear blue waters and if you love the calm waters of the sea yourself, then don’t think twice about adding this colour to your wardrobe. This particular shade is quite deep in terms of hue and would suit wheatish and fair skin tones the best. In fact, quite a few celebs have already been clicked wearing this colour too!pantone-spring-shadesbridesmaid-wear

Lucite Green: Green is a popular shade that surfaces time and again in Indian bridal wear all over the country. Mint green was chosen as one of Pantone’s colours of the year in 2014 and bears a minor resemblance to Lucite green too. Brides who prefer a light colour that looks fresh and unusual should definitely opt for this because its light tone is perfect for both day and night parties. In fact, if you plan to wear a darker shade at your wedding, you could choose this shade for your bridesmaids’ wear.

We’ll be back with more Pantone spring colour palettes next week.

How To Plan An Indian Beach Wedding The Right Way

The beach, the sands, and the sea have always been favorite holiday destinations. And now they are much sought after as wedding destinations too. Beach weddings are becoming increasingly popular…after all there can’t be more appropriate witnesses to your “happily ever after” than Nature in all her timeless glory and grandeur.

The perfect venue

You can either choose beach resorts or local hotspots. Booking a resort means most of your arrangements can be handed over to their staff. Also privately-owned beach strips are cleaner and just that – private! However, a public tourist spot can hold special meaning for you. If so, roping in a wedding planner will help you iron out the myriad details—from accommodation to transport to venue, service and ceremonial arrangements.

Maximize nature

Let nature adorn the venue; keep the manmade to a minimum.  Make sure that your exact venue will be set against the gleaming blue water, palm trees, and the shimmering sand. Beach weddings will primarily be evening events, so find that perfect spot where a breathtaking sunset will create the most romantic backdrop.

Park Hyatt Goa beach wedding India

image: Park Hyatt Goa

Keep the décor simple. Touch up the traditional with strokes of your beach theme. Choose a gazebo over a regular mandap. Or then just a simple arch draped with flowers or flowing fabric will also look gorgeous. Shells or starfish bling hanging from the chairs will add to the theme. Candles and diyas will not work, go instead for balloons or fairy and string lights. You can also choose a combination of indoor and outdoor locations for different portions of the ceremony – so that everyone can enjoy both the location as well as the wedding.

Dress for the destination

If you care to experiment, then go the whole hog. Instead of flaming red lehengas, shiny sherwanis and glittering gold, think something more….beachy! Set your style in flowy sundresses or gowns, with real flowers and leis. White satin, georgette or chiffon saris for the bride, and crisp linen for the groom will be just perfect for your beach wedding. The bride can choose embellished flip-flops to complete the look, and wrap it all up with themed jewelry and dolphin, starfish or shell motifs. You can also set a dress code for the guests – pastels, or shades of blue, turquoise,  aquamarine, peach or baby pink to match the environs. The photos will be just awesome!

Add an innovative touch

Starting from your wedding invite, add a touch of innovation to the entire wedding. Your invites can have “walking on the beach” or “writing in the sand” kind of imagery. At the venue, you can have a stall that lets your guests pick up sunglasses to beat the sun – a quirky gesture that everybody will just love! Decorate the sit-down tables with shells and other beach knickknacks to further the ambience. Engage local artisans to create sand paintings or sand artifacts as return gifts… so your guests walk away with the same kind of beautiful memories that you have of your wedding day.

Real Celebrity Weddings:Mira Rajput And Shahid Kapoor Wedding

Well well well, it had to happen one day and it happened yesterday! Yes, we are talking about the Bollywood Shaadi of 2015- Shahid Kapoor marrying Delhi girl Mira Rajput. The media went crazy when the news was afloat that Shahid had been engaged earlier this year to a mystery girl from Delhi. Following this news, many girls went in shock as they couldn’t believe that Bollywood’s most beloved bachelor had finally found love. Well, like they say ‘marriages are made in heaven’, so was Shahid’s.  Here is all you need to know about Shahid and Mira’s sweet union.

About the Bride

A Delhi girl who completed English honours degree recently from Lady Sriram College from Delhi University is the lucky one -Mira Rajput (now Kapoor). All of 21 years of age, this young lady is a follower of the religious group Radha Soami Satsang Beas which Shahid and his family also follow. Apparently, their families met at one of the satsangs and rest as they say is history…

Shahid-Mira-Wedding

Sangeet / Mehendi Ceremony

Since both the families are Delhi based, they chose Delhi as the venue for all the functions. (except the reception which will take place in Mumbai, -we are sure it will be a star studded affair). The sangeet function was held at Chattarpur farms on 6th July 2015. Earlier in the day there was a mehendi ceremony followed by a chooda/kaleera ceremony (according to Punjabi rituals). Mira wore a pretty lehenga choli in pastel yellow tone by Anita Dongre. It was a brocade lehenga with a light pink choli. The look was complete with a light jewellery set with a maang tika. The makeup was minimal. Shahid looked handsome in a red kurta with maroon jacket and black churidaar. Here’s a picture from the ceremony.

Shahid-Mira-Wedding

Wedding

Shahid wanted his wedding celebrations to be a close-knit affair and so, only 50 people were present to witness his big day. The guest list included close family members and some friends from both sides. The couple had a simple ceremony  where the groom wore a simple white kurta-churidaar and the bride a pastel pink-green suit with dupatta and gota patti work. She opted for minimal makeup and jewellery during the wedding. Shahid probably knew that millions of his girl fans are heartbroken because of his marriage so he clicked a selfie with Mira right after the wedding ceremony got over and posted it on his Instagram account that read- #hitched.  This was probably his way of giving a consolation prize to all his girl fans…a personal way of connecting with his fans may be.

Shahid-Mira-Wedding

Reception

Following the simple wedding on the morning on July 7th, The couple hosted a lavish dinner at Trident, The Oberoi  Gurgaon. The media was super excited to welcome the newly married couple at the venue and the couple happily posed for the shutterbugs. The couple looked very much in love and uber cute, needless to say. The choices of reception attire was very stylish as Mira wore a baby pink lehenga choli by Anamika Khanna and Shahid wore an off white sherwani by Kunal Rawal a designer friend of Shahid. There was a also feast at night where Shahid looked dapper in a black jacket and Mira looked stunning a whitish gown with beige design.

Wedding Day Rangoli Ideas

Rangoli is big part of Indian traditions. It is deep rooted in our culture and marks its place at the entrance of houses and temples alike. Rangoli designs are seen on many occasions and festivals. It is also a part of the welcome ceremony not only for the grooms’ baraat but for the wedding guests as well. Rangoli is usually also drawn around the seat where the bride and groom are seated for the wedding rituals. It is considered pious and auspicious. This ancient art is said to have existed even before painting and has been passed down from generation to generation.

wedding day rangoli ideas

The science behind rangoli is keeping insects and bugs away from the pooja area. At the same time, it offers immense ornamental and decorative value. It also demarcates the area that is to be used for religious rituals and/or festive celebrations. Since it is has religious sentiments attached, a rangoli is never drawn on an unclean surface. In the olden days, the floor where the rangoli was to be drawn was cleaned and smeared with cow dung-which is believed to have cleansing properties. While the surface is still wet, the rangoli is drawn so that it gets stuck to the ground and lasts longer.

The word Rangoli originates from Sanskrit work ‘Rangavalli’. Fine, sand-like powder is used to draw the traditional designs, though today, there are many other materials used for their creation. It is a free-hand art form and usually no instruments are used for creating it.

There are various rangoli designs suitable for weddings. Presenting a few wedding day rangoli ideas.

  1. Traditional Rangoli: You can never go wrong with traditional rangoli. It is a classic and always appeals the eyes. You can use bright and festive colours such as red and orange to make it pop. You will have to mindful of the décor. If the backdrop is subtle, the rangoli can be bright. On the other hand, if the background is colorful, you can limit the use of colors in the rangoli to two to three.
  1. Flower Rangoli: the basic outline can be drawn using a chalk or rangoli powder. The inside is filled with flower petals. Marigold rangoli looks best due to its vivacious shades of yellow, orange and white. Also, the flower is easily available in most seasons and at a reasonable price. For green colour, mango tree leaves are the preferred choice. Some unique choices are more exotic flowers such as roses, jasmine and lily. While choosing flower rangoli you must consider the availability of the desired flowers, freshness of flowers, how long they can stay fresh and the color combinations they can create.

Sanskar-Bharti-rangoli-

  1. Water Rangoli: Water rangoli is drawn in a flat, pot type vessel. Various elements are at play in a water rangoli. A water rangoli is delicate and cannot stand to be disturbed; so the vessel used should be thick-like a copper pot. Some venues have allotted water tanks for such rangolis. You can also light pretty candle diyas in a water rangoli in between the petals. These are special light weight diyas easily available in the market. This rangoli is best suited for an evening function. It can also be considered as a variant of flower rangoli.
  1. Sanskar Bharti Rangoli: This is a special type of rangoli. This rangoli is designed for big patterns. It uses up lots of rangoli powder but gives an elegant and large size rangoli. It is very popular form of rangoli in Maharashtra and some parts of South India. Traditional rangoli uses index finger and thumb but sanskar bharti uses all five fingers. Sieves or nets are used to fill in colours. Sanskar bharti rangoli is made of circles- which represent the Hindu sanskar and so this rangoli is so called.

  1. Portrait Rangoli: There are many rangoli artists in each city. These help draw the portrait of the bridal couple. (Don’t worry, the bride doesn’t have to spare hours for this type of rangoli!)These artists are so accomplished that all they need is a picture of the bride of groom (accepted even on a smartphone!). (You can easily assign the task of taking the picture of the bride and groom in full glory to a friend to give it to the rangoli artist while s/he creates magic!)

weddings at Marriott India

Most of you already know of Marriott and its vast portfolio. And like the flagship, each of these understands their client’s desire of having the perfect dream wedding. These professionals will sit down with you to discuss the minutest of details so you get exactly what your heart desires.

weddings at Marriott India

Weddings are an important fabric of society and Indian weddings, over the past few years, have undergone a paradigm shift. Traditions are making way to uniqueness and individualism as each couple wants a ceremony that has never been seen before and is talked about for years to come. Modern Indian bridal families also wish to make a style statement by thinking out of the box and customizing each and every thing from the tiniest detail be it the wedding stationery, the cutlery, the wedding favours and so on.

Today, weddings are no longer about chanting hymns and performing rituals while guests watch. Neither are weddings about standard décor or buffet with posed for wedding photography. Brides and grooms today make sure that each of their guests gets to live a unique experience. So they are deciding on oft overlooked details like where each guest would be seated, how s/he would be entertained and what elegant gift bags they would take home.

The emergence of trends and themes

Today, Indian couples are opting for trendy themed weddings- whether it is a colour coordinated décor and attire or Do-It-Yourself gifts and favours to natural or outdoor -garden themed soirees. Some of these mention-worthy themes also include Bollywood theme, vintage theme, glamorous theme and intimate and cozy theme.

The Venues

Based on these themes, weddings have now moved away from the traditional Mangal Karyalayas and AC banquet halls to the more glamorous and unique locales that include exotic destinations like Goan beaches to forts and palaces of Rajasthan and other luxurious destinations in India or abroad to give a one-of-a-kind experience. These locales and venues provide a breathtaking backdrop for stunning wedding photos.

Décor Flowers and Lighting

Imagine an evening ceremony, where you make a grand entrance on petal covered pathways in shimmering lights. Talented wedding planners and decorators from Marriott teams are experts in using lights and flowers as the central or focal points of wedding décors. From lighting all trees at the venue or using candles, tea lights or chandeliers, there are numerous creative ways in which these elements can be used to add charisma to a given wedding venue. Chinese style lanterns, or desi earthern or metal lamp posts can also create a soothing and elegant atmosphere.

weddings at Marriott India

Flowers too form an integral part of the Indian wedding décor. Talented florists and decorators from Marriott are adept at using creativity to take wedding flower arrangements to a whole new level. Be it wooden screens and walls covered with alternating arrangements of marigolds and string lights or the use of flower petals to welcome guests as they walk down to the seating area; there are literally a million ways to use flowers at the venue. Marriott banquet spaces provide an ideal setup and plenty of scope to utilize both lighting and floral elements. This way, couples can truly reflect their personal style and themes they have in mind.

Today, wedding planners are seeing a rising trend in demand for exotic, seasonal and non-seasonal flowers including orchids, chrysanthemums, marigolds, roses, wildflowers etc. These can be mixed with other materials like lace, tulle, fabric, brooches, jewelry satin etc for creating unique arrangements.

Food

More brides are demanding fusion catering for their wedding menus, so apart from traditional Indian fares, guests are also getting to sample World cuisine. Today, guests are known to have different dietary needs: from ultra health conscious to the picky eaters to strictly vegetarian guests; wedding hosts have to take all these varied needs into account. The Marriott team understands this need and offers catering stations providing vegan food, vegetarian food, salad bars, sushi platters and calorie-limited dessert counters.

Traditional buffets are definitely out now as the focus is on classy family style dining. This is what Indian wedding parties are also demanding. So, cozy comfortable and elegant dining is preferred over having guests to wait in long lines. This way, they can comfortably enjoy seated meals.

Morning weddings are also seeing a new trend- those of wedding brunches. These consist of continentals spreads that include waffle and pancake counters, egg stations, burger stands and so on. Marriott Indian has always been known for its range of delicious cuisine from  different parts of India as well as from around the world. It understands these diverse needs to customize food and ensures leaving you and your guests impressed and full.

Wedding desserts and cakes

More Indian weddings are seeing cakes in their menu offerings apart from usual traditional desserts like Gulab Jamuns, ice creams, Rabdis, kulfis etc. Wedding cakes are also getting flamboyant as the talented pastry chefs from Marriott whip up flambé on the spot and impress your guests. Apart from traditional 2 or 3 tier cakes, you can also demand huge 5 or 7 tiered cakes, Sari cakes, Indian royal or thematic wedding cakes, pastry cakes, cheese cakes, cup cakes etc. By adding metallic and floral elements and by additionally incorporating seasonal colours and fresh fruits in the cakes, your wedding will surely be talked about for years to come.

Technology

Technology is the mainstay of weddings in the country and no one understands this better than the Marriott. From wearable technology to 3D dessert printing to Instagram and Tweets, planners know and realize that Smartphones will be clicking away as you say your vows. Drone wedding photography is another such trend that involves shooting your wedding on film from high up in the air. Marriott helps enable this use of technology in order to ensure taking your celebration to  whole new level.

One stop wedding planning with Marriott

Whether your Big Day includes intimate family gathering for traditional exchange of Indian wedding vows or you prefer an elaborate and extravagant affair in one of the exotic destinations across the globe; the Marriott will partner with you and your family to enhance your vision. Wedding planning specialists can collaborate every step of the way with you to bring your dream ceremony and reception to life.

6 Ways To Have A Bollywood Themed Wedding

Mangni – done. Haldi and Mehendi –covered. Sangeet – Check. Baarat – double check! Jaimala –waiting for it! We know you are. So what else is left for a Bollywood themed wedding? Here are 6 tips to bring in some B-town magic on your Dream Day:

1.      Get a band

Yes. We mean a band but not the traditional baarat band of course. We mean the new age rockers and DJs who can play, sing, orchestrate and coordinate top Bollywood music for all small and big ceremonies during the wedding making the wedding video look like a replay of Hum Aap Ke hai Kaun. Have them play Bollywood songs, either the original versions or remixed. Get your guests dance to these numbers. Get performers to sing and dance up on stage and generally mingle with your guests. If you are up to it- perform impromptu feats like dancing or singing romantic songs like “tujhe dekha to yeh” and maybe even gently nudge the guests to revel in the Bollywood tamasha!

6 ways to have a Bollywood themed wedding

2.      Add some drama-Bollywood style!

Include all traditional rituals and ceremonies like “jootey chupana”, teasing and misleading the nephews and nieces, sisters and brother-in-law etc to create classic Bollywood movie-like atmosphere.

3.      Glam up the venue

Don’t forget the red carpets and the golden tents. Have your decorators use Bollywood wedding décor elements including pillow cases having pictures of top Bollywood celebs. If that sounds a bit farfetched- go in for an outdoor themed wedding with a makeshift mandap instead of the traditional banquet hall. (Most often than not, this works out less expensive than a traditional wedding and also gives the look and feel of a big movie wedding set).

bollywood themed wedding decor

If you are taking your wedding outdoors, make sure it isn’t too windy, rainy or warm. Choose a mahurat that falls in the evening when it is cool and pleasant. Outdoor theme is also best if you are getting married in summer. Keep some air coolers and massive stand fans as backup. Ensure you have electrical outlets close by which can be used to power up these gadgets if the weather decides to give you a little hard time. For evening weddings, light diyas and tea lights to create a glam atmosphere. Decorate the walkway up to the Mandap with seasonal flower petals.

4.      Bollywood style menu

Indian weddings are all about food. What would a fun Punjabi wedding be without Dal Makhni, Paneer Kofta, Tandoori Murg, Butter Chicken and Naan? Have separate stations for all food items giving them fun names like movies or names of actors and actresses. Spice it up with caterers wearing costume of the region famous for that particular food stall.

5.      Celeb inspired jewelry

Browse through our galleries  and blog for some inspirational jewellery as worn by Bollywood actresses. Have these pieces customized to your liking.

6.      Choose unique and non-traditional colour palettes

If you have been thinking gold, red, yellow and green, think again. Modern Bollywood films have depicted hatke colours like burnt orange, turquoise, violet, sky blue and even white and its shades – literally all other colours than the usual reds or pinks! Have your lehengas  and your groom’s Sherwani customized and colour coordinated. You can even seek tons of inspiration from the fashion ramps. These days, you can even rent Bollywood inspired bridal attire, if budget is tight.

Finally, remember that your wedding is all about taking vows in order to live happily and contently ever after. So make sure you have tons of fun on the Big Day, Bollywood style or otherwise!

Looking for ideas and tips for home decoration that truly identifies who you and your groom really are? Read on for top Indian wedding home decoration ideas!

1. Choose your wedding colours

This is the first step when planning an intimate wedding in your home. Select your wedding theme and colours since that will help you give a cohesive look to the entire home. Purple, pink, burnt orange, green, blue and aquamarinesand other warm colours are some of the hottest themes that will never ever go out of fashion.

2. Choose your decor accessories

Pillows, curtains, centerpieces and rugs in the chosen theme and colours are a good place to start your home decoration with. You can also revamp the entire home by buying new furniture should you budget allow it. Sofas and lounge chairs in the selected colours can even be rented out and these can really enhance the home décor. Gold and silver glittering candle stands can enhance the home décor and you need not spend too much on them. Add these on tables, shelves and countertops all around the home for a cohesive look.

3. Paint the home

There is nothing like a fresh coat of paint to enhance your wedding home décor. Beige, white, gray and light shades of blue and green are really popular this season. Take your wedding theme and colours into account and speak to a colour expert to ensure they match.

4. Set the stage

The mandap where the couple will tie the knot is the most important area as far as the wedding home decoration goes. If you are having a traditional Hindu ceremony, make some room for the havan kund or holy fire. Ensure that this area is well ventilated to prevent the room from getting too smoky. You can create a lovely backdrop with flowers or crepe dupattas in your chosen colours in this area. Check out the marigold backdrop below-sure to be a huge hit with your guests.

5. The entrance

The entrance to the home can be decorated using marigolds, roses and jasmine. If this is passé you can go for ice sculptures in winters and floral centerpieces alongside rangolis in summers. For evening weddings, go for tea lights, diyas and candles. Place a toran made of cloth or flowers around the door. Floating flower rangolis in water are also popular for home entrance decorations.

6. Chandeliers and colourful canopies

A chandelier is a wonderful addition to the hall and entrance. For an outdoor wedding (garden wedding), go for colourful canopies in fabrics with different textures or floral arches to say your vows under. If you are planning to have an indoor buffet, you can add tables and chairs were guests will have a seated meal and add lanterns or small chandeliers above this area. Decorate the exteriors and interior with lights. Strands of lights in different colours and shapes are readily available in the market. Simply measure the length, breadth and width and buy these strands that are available in meters. You can also suspend lights from the rooftops.
